Oirbo devlog #59 - New enemy, incoming demo details!

(Posted originally on our blog)

Hi guys!

In the past couple of weeks, we've been finishing implementing the medical last enemy, you can see in the gif above the ongoing results. Mechanically it's almost complete, the only thing missing is really the merge mechanic and some tweaks on the robos animations. Of course, it will add a bunch more flare into both the split and merge animations, the above ones are just the base for what to come.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to finish everything before having to pause development to the upcoming demo!!

We decided to be part of the upcoming  Steam Game Festival event. This means that between June 9 and June 14 you will be able to download and play a demo version of Oirbo on Steam, Discord and itch.io (probably).

Ever since the beginning of the month, we've been polishing and making the final touches to the menus and navigability in order to deliver the closest experience as possible to the final game, our goal is to deliver at least 60% of what you can expect when the game is complete.

The demo will take part entirely in the nature area and you will able to explore about 2/3 of the total content and challenges that we designed. The image below shows a stripped-down area2, you will be able to explore everything outside the white rectangles!

The demo will end when you defeat the area boss and we will disable the saving system for the demo so you will be able to play as much as you wish and explore the nature area to all its glory.

There will be however some missing content, so besides the basic layout, you will still have a bunch of stuff to discover when the actual game comes out. As one would expect the 4 exits of the nature area will be impossible to traverse.

The most significant omission in the demo will be the visual language in the world, unfortunately, we won't be able to include it before the demo release date since it is planned to be done after we wrap up the medical area. When we get to that stage we will also probably start the beta program of the game, so you will be able to check it out anyway soon.

You will nevertheless, find some little details that we've been adding for the last couple of weeks into the nature area, we pretty much made a complete overall into the decoration and design of the entire area, so most of the gifs and videos we shared in the past are now deprecated and don't represent the nature area at all. You can also expect some gems scattered across the area such as the ones we've been sharing on twitter.

Next time we stop to write down the next devlog the demo will hopefully be completed so we will share more details about it ;D, until then don't forget to join us on  Discord, Twitter, and wishlist the game on  Steam.
